What were the key updates for social media platforms in June 2025?

For comms and marketing professionals in the public sector, keeping up with the pace of change can feel like chasing a moving target – but don’t worry, Orlo Partner and Social Media Consultant, Luan Wise has done the work for you.

In this monthly round-up, you’ll find the key updates you need to know, across different platforms, what they mean in practice, and how you can adapt your approach to keep your content relevant, accessible and effective.

We love data insights, and LinkedIn has now added some additional post analytics elements to help you identify how your posts are driving engagement and interaction. On your personal profile you will now see data that shows when a post drive profile viewers and new followers, highlighting how your content has prompted action and audience growth.

For its newsletter and article formats, LinkedIn has added the option to include a video in the header image position. As video content is now driving more engagement on the platform than other post types (according to LinkedIn), there’s no surprise that this content format is an important update to embrace! LinkedIn Newsletters also continue to gain traction.

Again, there’s no doubting the importance of video content as Facebook announces that all videos on its platform will soon be shared as Reels, no matter what the length or format (horizontal or vertical).

There’s a few small feature updates from Instagram this month including additional comment filters for Creator accounts with over 100,000 followers, and new DM options including voice note transcription (we love this one!)

Within the app you will also find new performance insights for ‘recap’ and ‘celebrations’ which provide summaries of key milestones including post views, views from non-followers and follower growth; all valuable in helping you to understand what’s resonating most with your audience.

A long-awaited feature has arrived on Threads, with direct messaging now available! A fun interactive ‘spoiler tag’ is also now available – this feature allow you to blur text or images within a post, encouraging users to tap or click to reveal the full post. Great if you’re looking to avoid a TV spoiler, but also useful for teasing a big announcement perhaps.

While TikTok already allows users to use keyword filters to restrict specific content from appearing in their feeds, they are now making it easier to add keywords. They’re expanding the number of keywords from 100 to 200, and rolling out new AI-powered Smart Keyword Filters to also limit content that contains similar keywords, such as synonyms. Users can select or deselect specific keywords to include.

TikTok is also testing its own version of Instagram’s ‘Broadcast Channels’, called ‘Bulletin Boards’ as a useful one-to-many messaging tool for sharing public updates with followers.

Back to the analytics features, and YouTube has updated its advanced analytics to make it more intuitive to use and also to provide more detailed insights into video performance.

If you’re seeking collaboration opportunities for YouTube content, then take a look at the new feature within its BrandConnect platform, ‘Open Call’, where you will be able to post opportunities for prospective partners and invite applications.
